About The Company

SD is a Dance Theatre Company, formed in 2004, that produces professional, youth and community dance/mixed art form works, as well as providing educational dance workshops for all levels of learning.

With a growing reputation for closing the gap between performers and the audience, the choreographies of Jenni Wren and Slanjayvah Danza are layered into complex reflections of the human psyche. The work is peppered with diverse alternative artistic practices, complementary to dance, that help to convey narratives that any audience can relate to.

In her work Wren draws on humour and light heartedness, yet manages to retain raw emotions within the topic. Reality is explored and the thoughts of each individual audience member are challenged.

Diversity and eclecticism are what drive Slanjayvah Danza to produce unique and innovative work. To illustrate her ideas Wren fuses a variety of Dance styles, employing tools and skills beyond those of an average Dancer. Each project engages collaboration of artists from all types of arts including traditional Spanish Dancers, Actors, Musicians, Costume and Lighting Designers, Filmmakers, Storytellers, Sign language Interpreters, Stage Fighters, and Painters, to mention a few.

Slanjayvah Danza attracts a mixed range of audience types and continues to attract both experienced and non-traditional theatre-goers by making high quality, accessible, humorous and enthusiastic choreographies and film.

Utilising the medium of dance, SD programmes create benefits relating to health, body awareness, confidence, inclusion, promotion of individuality, and transferable skills development  through performance, education, production and the overall management of such events.  Acknowledging the importance of dance in education and community involvement, Slanjayvah Danza is committed to providing regular and tailor-made educational workshops alongside the tour of each project. Workshops are led exclusively by company performers and can be tailored to any age group and ability level.

Working in Partnership as Dance Company in Residence at Seven Artspace, Slanjayvah Danza make and  tour works within the UK, and Europe, to small scale venues maintaining its interest in more intimate performance spaces.
