Artistic Director
Jenni Wren
Growing up in an artistic family, the influence to have a career in the arts was almost destined. Through several channels, Wren was performing in dance and showed a leaning for choreography from the young age of six.
She went on to study Dance through a BPA Hons (Contemporary Dance) at NSCD and created her first professional piece in 2003. The success of this work led Wren on to secure Arts Council funding enabling her to produce work of high calibre and creativity. In 2004, she decided start her own dance and theatre company and founded Slanjayvah Danza.
A desire for personal and professional development has fuelled a life-long interest in the nuances of human behaviour. Elements of this study are evident in much of Wren's work as she delves deep into the human psyche colouring her work with emotionally raw, yet often humorous, content.
Jenni has gained critical acclaim for her unusual and interesting approach to creating work that audiences can relate to.
This year her work has naturally progressed with the use of digital mediat into an already extensive raft of skills she uses in the design of her productions.
Wren holds a keen interest in alternative remedies, promoting health for dancers and remedial treatments. Her passion for learning has led her to in-depth studies, which will continue through 2010/11 as she starts the third work in the trilogy of "Mode: Sensation/Thought" to produce "Minor Tears", in collaboration with world-renowned dance sociologist/scientist, Professor Helen Thomas.
