Shiva’s Camino is a dynamic outdoor collaboration between Slanjayvah Danza and Dance Ihayami, bringing together Scottish step, flamenco, Indian classical, Bollywood and contemporary dance under the open sky at MultiStory during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2021.

Accompanied by live music, the dancers and musicians weave a seamless choreography of traditions, and the result is a vibrant, evocative performance that celebrates cultural exchange, movement and the universal language of rhythm.

The project beautifully reflects Slanjayvah Danza’s ethos: rooted in tradition, open to collaboration, and committed to dance as a force for community, exchange, and joy. It also showcases Wren’s signature style; her fusing of Scottish and Spanish traditional practices together with contemporary dance.

The project was produced by Dance Base in partnership with Guided Balloon and the Traverse Theatre.

“An eclectic, passionate reminder of how dance unifies people across the world”

Performance and Accolades

Shiva’s Camino premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 21 at the Multistory (outdoor post-pandemic space) backdropped by Edinburgh Castles where it ran for two weeks. It was named as Bella Caledonia’s “Pick of the Fringe” which encouraged anyone who loves “dance-offs” to see it.

The tone across all media coverage was consistently positive; it was seen as a joyful, accessible, and technically strong, and symbolically important in a pandemic-era Fringe that was smaller, outdoors, and consciously about rebuilding international connections.
